Guild Wars Maps

Maps have always been a part of Guild Wars. Maps are a great feature that can really help you and your party navigate your way across the Kingdoms of Ascalon. By default the map is displayed in the bottom right corner of your screen. The maps found in Guild Wars will allow you to see enemies, beasts, and NPC’s from a distance. For simplicity’s sake, green dots indicate and ally on the map and a red dot indicates an enemy on the map.

In Guild Wars Eye of the North, Arenanet introduced dungeons as a more important part the game. As a result they also had to introduce new maps for the dungeons. Dungeons on the map are displayed in total darkness until they have been thoroughly explored. The only way to make your way around the dungeons until then is with the help of the dungeon maps that can be found near the entrances of dungeons. These maps aren’t very detailed but they’re enough to get about the dungeons without any frustration. Dungeons maps will display dungeon bosses, keys and doors to the next or previous level.

If the default maps that come with Guild Wars aren’t enough for you, you can also download third party extensions that can enhance your map with any number of features. Many third party maps are capable of displaying fulls maps of any region or area. Some have the ability to search for cities, enemies, NPC’s and more in just a few clicks. Try out a few third party maps so you can figure out which one is the best for your tastes. A good extension will also include all the dungeon maps.
